PACTA Partners with National Human Rights Commission of Indonesia to Design Framework for Aceh Truth and Reconciliation Commission

PACTA is proud to announce that it has entered an agreement with the National Human Rights Commission of Indonesia, Komnas HAM, to design the framework for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) related to the Aceh Peace Process.

The agreement, signed in Jakarta on February 16, 2015, formalizes the commitment of the parties to jointly develop the framework within a period of 3 years, and provides for wide solicitation of input, ideas, and recommendations from, among others, community leaders and civil society organisations in Aceh, and national and international experts.  Once finalized the framework will be presented to the signatory parties to the 2005 Helsinki MOU and other key stakeholders.

"The development of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Aceh is in keeping with the joint commitments of the Helsinki MOU, and coincides with the 10th anniversary of its signing, marking a decade of peace for the Achenese people," says Juha Christensen, PACTA general manager.  "In contributing to the development of its mandate, PACTA is honoured to be a part of this historic process paving the way for a lasting peace."
