Jan-Erik Enestam

Chairman

Mr. Jan-Erik Enestam is the current Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Nordic Council. Before his current office, Mr. Enestam was the Minister of Environment (2003-2007), Minister of Defence (1995 and 1999-2003) and Minister for Internal Affairs (1995-1999).

Mr. Enestam was member of the Finnish Parliament between 1991 and 2007, and the Municipal Director of Västanfjärd between 1978 and 1983, among other assignments. Mr. Enestam was the leader of the Swedish People’s Party of Finland from 1998 until 2006.

He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) that aims at strengthening intercultural relations in the governmental and non-governmental sectors. Other responsible positions include a distinguished fellowship at the New Westminster College in Toronto, the presidency of the Finnish Canoeing and Rowing Association and the chairmanship of the board of the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation.

Gustav Hägglund

Member

General Hägglund is the highly respected former Finnish Chief of Defence (1994-2001) and was also previously Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (2001 – 2004). He has extensive experience of peacekeeping missions and of working on peace and security issues.
